The late Paul Patten was a true gentleman and once had the opportunity of being promoted from Squadron Leader to acting Air Commodore, within the space of a week, whilst serving under Keith Park on the besieged island of Malta during WWII. The defiant aircraft on display at the RAF Museum is one that he flew while with No 307 Squadron.
