80th Anniversary of the First British Transport Operation

Cover commemorating the first British Air Transport Operation in 1916 where the Turks had sieged Kut-al-Imarah in 1916 and No 30 Squadron RFC dropped supplies and food to the beseiged garrison. German aircraft soon moved into the aera and started attacking the 30 Squadron RFC aircraft and their RNAS attachment this further prevented the Allies from breaking through the seige, so the Garrison surrendered - only 8,000 of the 12,000 captured survived captivity. The covers all bear BFPS 2510 postmark for the 80th Anniversary of the Great War - The Surrender at Kul-Al-Amarah.

Note: Wing Commander RA Milward OBE DFC* won his DFC with No 30 Squadron flying Desert Hurricanes and his bar with No 619 Squadron Lancasters in 1945. Squadron Leader TA Stevens flew Thunderbolts with No 30 Squadron and Wing Commander J Lamonte flew C-130 Hercules.
