AIR DEFENCE / AIRBORNE EARLY WARNING The Air Defence and Airborne Early Warning roles of the RAF are illustrated with the Tornado F3, in its grey air defence variant (ADV) livery, together with the instantly recognisable Boeing Sentry. All the covers have been flown in the lead aircraft of a 16 Spitfire formation, on the unique historic flight to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Spitfire?s introduction into operational service. In view of the Spitfire?s role throughout WWII and specifically in the air defence of Great Britain during 1940, this flight is completely fitting.
