JS(50)42/3a / AF06a Operation Biting Bruneval Raid IOM RAF cover

JS50/42/3a (also numbered AF6 as part of the Airborne Forces mini-series) 50th Anniversary of Operation Biting - The Bruneval Raid on 27 February 1942 where RAF Whitley aircraft of No 51 Squadron dropped paratroops in the village of Bruneval and captured a German radar post and proceeded in dismantling the radar equipment and under heavy fire make it to the beach to be picked up by a landing craft. The raid was a complete success although there were casualities from the beach defences, the captured equippment being vital in trying to find ways around the Germans detecting Allied Bomber aircraft. The artwork by Tony Theobald shows the Whitley's dropping airborne troops, troops on the ground at the captured radar site and on the beaches making their escape.

The cover bears 28p Isle of Man Operation Market Garden Arnhem stamp cancelled with Isle of Man postmark for the 50th Anniversary of Operation Biting 27 February 1992. The cover has been flown in a C-130 Hercules of No 30 Squadron from RAF Lyneham to RAF Leuchars and then on to RAF Wildenrath, Germany.
